MPBC Invasion

An invasion of mega-proportions was recorded in Bratislava earlier this spring. Yep, a contingent of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church (our home church in Virginia) youth group landed for a week of ministry and work with our team. We had a tremendous week together. The week was packed with teaching English, pizza parties, making new friends, working in an orphanage, neighborhood clean-ups, and feeding the homeless. We are so thankful to Wint & Vicki Fox (team leader's) and the rest the team. You guys are all fantastic! Thanks for making Jesus known to many here in our city.

A feast fit for a king

Ben's homeschool curriculum includes an on-line English course in which they are reading and working through "The Chronicles of Narnia" series by C.S. Lewis. At the end of the semester the students had to complete a macro project in connection with the Narnia books. Ben chose to prepare a coronation feast that is mentioned in "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" book. And a feast it was! He planned the entire menu including roast beef & chicken, shish-kabobs, salmon, stuffing, potatoes, fresh fruits, veggies, homemade cheesecake, etc. With the help of Sonya and Linda, he spent two days in the kitchen and the results were really amazing. He invited over a bunch of friends to enjoy the fruits of his labor and to reduce the number of left-overs. It was a fine project enjoyed by all.

Happy New Year from Slovakia! We've experienced an artic blast the last few weeks and the thermometer hasn't been above freezing since Christmas day. Christmas and the New Year were a special time as Kara was able to be with us for the holidays. We spent a few days in the Tatra mountains in late December and enjoyed the stunning scenery. Lights, Camera, Action

The Vienna Christian School Vagabonds recently put on a production of Frank Peretti's "Tilly". It's a serious story dealing with the issue of abortion and forgiveness. Allison, in the role of Tilly, and the rest of the cast did an excellent job bringing nearly everyone in the audience to tears in each of the 4 performances.

Weekend Getaway

This past weekend they celebrated the Slovak version of Veteran's Day which gave everybody a 3-day weekend. To take advantage of the weekend we planned a retreat with a small church from eastern Slovakia that we work with regularly. Sonya and Tom were able to be a part of sharing in the retreat focus which was "spiritual renewal". We also took some great, long walks in the crisp, mountain air.

It has been a great summer full of memories, adventures and good friends. As hard as it is to believe it's time for school once again. Today Kara starts her senior year and the University of Mary Washington, Allison starts her senior year (H.S.) at Vienna Christian School and Ben...well being homeschooled he still has a week of freedom.
